So this is it…I am off on an adventure!
hahahaaahahaha. Bilbo got a haircut. (Dang that is one hansom man!)
The funny picture was created on purpose. Nowadays, I find myself
thinking ironically like Bilbo Baggins. Am I really up for the adventure or not? It is exciting and absolutely terrifying. But writing like this and more so
drawing helps me cope with my senses of anxiety. The flight will be an all
nighter (14 hrs. long) #Slumberpartyonaplane! Regardless, I am super excited to
relay some news I have received regarding my classes I will be taking. Sounds
like my portfolio did its work!!!! The following is a list of the classes I
will be taking while in NZ at COCA:
237.117 Maori Art and Design Studio I - Toi Atea (15 credits)
An introduction to the
development of personal forms of expression though an engagement with the
values, concepts, traditions, art/design forms and structures of the whare
whakairo.
We will be able to learn the following….
1.
Identify the architectural
elements, values and concepts associated with the whare whakairo.
2.
Demonstrate knowledge of the
basic working processes involved in producing some of the major art forms of
the whare whakairo. (kowhaiwhai, tukutuku, raranga, and whakairo).
3.
Understand the major
compositional structures of some of the major art forms of the whare whakairo.
Produce contemporary images and
forms based on an understanding and respect for the customary art forms of the
whare whakairo.
213.154 Drawing as Expanded Practice (15 credits)
In this studio paper students will
be introduced to the potential for drawing to become more than a traditional
practice of representation. The paper will focus on expanding students'
observation skills, and modes of expression and representation, in an expanded
field of contemporary art and design practice.
197.133 Materials: Design and Making (15 credits)
Material exploration for the
design of objects, spaces, garments and textiles
We will learn…
1. Demonstrate an introductory understanding of the design potential,
physical properties and cultural significance of materials.
2. Use investigative skills to find and select contemporary,
historical, visual and/or material sources for inspiration and evaluation.
3. Begin to creatively investigate and manipulate a range of
materials in order to explore their potential design applications.
4. Apply basic craft skills and design knowledge to the making of
artefacts.
Make reasoned judgements in order to develop studio work.
213.151 Sculpture (15 credits)
In this
studio paper students will be introduced to aspects of contemporary sculpture
with a focus on object making, the exploration of physical materials and
applied processes. While working to a brief, students are expected to undertake
independent investigations and develop individual responses.
